We Went Forth

We went forth
we multiplied
we relinquished
the earth

A sower went out to sow
and his seed fell on
the ground
and thorns sprang up
and choked the earth
quicker than any dirt
he could pile on

You can tell a tree by
its fruit
you can tell a man by
his seed
but it’s no good telling any
of this to the earth

So go forth
and subtract
and replenish
the earth.
