Did you notice
how completely
nothing has changed?
Is it any wonder
when truth stubbornly
holds its ground?
Revolutionaries
don’t really stand
much of a chance
what with the sun
and the stars
and seasons
all so stuck in their ways.
What hope has a new idea got
against the unrepentant earth?
How can there possibly
be any progress
toward any idea
of transcendence
when all creation
insists unflinchingly
on these arcane rhythms
of birthing and dying?
Perhaps we’d make a better
success of living
if we overcame
our fear of the way things are.

Ah- the success of living
Spending time on a tropical island and playing music with the locals = the success of living
Swimming over a coral reef busy with clourful fish and then walking the sandy beach at sunset holding hands with my loved one = the success of living
laughing until I cry with laughter = the success of living
AND
singing a song that has the audience in tears = the succss of living!
